“Lose Yourself” - 8 Mile

See Song Lyrics
In 2002, we got a glimpse into what it was like for Eminem growing up in inner city Detroit. The rap battles, the backstabbing deadbeat women, the odds stacked against him, and his determination to break free from it all with his music. Just like that, 'Lose Yourself' became an anthem for anyone attempting to do the impossible and better their life.

There are tons of amazing Disney songs. Here's some criteria we used to narrow this list down:
1. All songs are from animated films that were released to theaters.
2. All songs are sung by a character in the film. (This is why the brilliant and otherwise top five-worthy 'Circle of Life' is not included.)
3. No straight-to-video releases or sequels.
4. All of these films are made by Walt Disney Studios. So, no Pixar movies (like
Toy Story). Skellington Productions films (The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach) are included, however, as the studio was owned by Disney.

10. 'Reflection' — Mulan

Christina Aguilera owes her career's start to 'Reflection,' but it's the film version by Lea Salonga that really connected with Disney fans. Taking its title literally, the song is about self-examination and the desire to be true to oneself. This is one of the rawest ballads that Disney ever released, and its message still resonates just as strongly as it did in 1998.

9. 'Colors of the Wind' — Pocahontas

Sung by Judy Kuhn, who voices Pocahontas in the film, 'Colors of the Wind' was yet another Oscar-winning song for Disney. Though its lyrics were not the most historically accurate (a blue corn moon is not a thing), it encouraged people to appreciate the world around them and to seek to understand others before judging them.

8. 'I Just Can't Wait to Be King' — The Lion King

The Lion King's most buoyant, happy number had a young Simba running around and imagining his destiny, still wide-eyed and full of hope. A theme song for growing up and wanting more independence, it's also insanely infectious. Just try to keep those feet still as the drums start up. (You can't.)

7. 'I-2-I' — A Goofy Movie

A Goofy Movie is an often overlooked Disney film with a devoted cult following, in no small part thanks to its amazing soundtrack. 'I-2-I' is the film's climax, a legitimate high-octane banger that's oozing with feel-good vibes. Plus, singer Tevin Campbell's vocals sound like a cross between Michael Jackson and Prince.

6. 'Let It Go' — Frozen

'Let It Go's wild popularity is no secret — the song has been holding steady at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been charting for 20 weeks. The power of the song lies in its hope for catharsis: It's a life mantra perfect for anyone holding on to a feeling that's holding them back. The song is brilliantly delivered by Idina Menzel, whose powerhouse voice has just the right edge and grit to make it an anthem for the ages.

5. 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight' — The Lion King

This Oscar-winning song, written by Elton John and Tim Rice, is maybe the most grown-up of the Disney canon, silky and — dare I say it? — sensual. The harmonies are gorgeous, and the song never veers into cheesy or over-the-top territory. And is there a better line than 'the world, for once, in perfect harmony' to describe the magical feeling of being in love?

4. 'Beauty and the Beast' — Beauty and the Beast

Though the commercial pop version of 'Beauty and the Beast,' sung by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson, is great, the film version — performed by Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Potts — is even better. Tender and warm, this one also won an Oscar, and it tugs at all the right heartstrings to get your eyes a little misty.

3. 'A Whole New World' — Aladdin

Disney's most romantic song is also one of its most prestigious, winning the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1993. Voiced by Disney favorites Lea Salonga and Brad Kane, 'A Whole New World' has become a modern classic, capturing the sense of adventure, excitement, and wonder of new love. It's also an all-around foolproof choice for theater auditions and karaoke.

2. 'Part of Your World' — The Little Mermaid

'Part of Your World' is not only The Little Mermaid's hallmark song, it's also an anthem for anyone who has ever felt they were on the outside, looking into a place, a group, or a station in life that they yearned to be a part of. And Ariel voice actress Jodi Benson absolutely nails the bigger-than-yourself vocals that make this song endlessly satisfying to belt out alone, with friends, in your car, in the shower, and on the street. A true power ballad.

1. 'When You Wish Upon a Star' — Pinocchio

The theme song from the 1940 film has become an iconic anthem for the Walt Disney Company at large. It's used in the opening logo sequence of all Disney films and during parades and shows at Disney's theme parks and cruises. And not for nothing — the song is truly a mission statement for Disney: Dreams are for everyone, no matter who you are.
